Introduction
The American Northeast during the 1800s was very different from today's east coast. Cities such as Boston and New York were major attractions for business and trade, while areas such as the countryside and the frontier produced a large amount of farmers. The location of cities such as Boston and New York helped with trade because of the coast and the Atlantic Ocean. Also, the geography was good for farming so farmers often had good produce. Transportation was beginning to advance tremendously, so it was easier to get to cities to trade. During this time, a wide range of immigrants began to arrive at our shores, which began a huge a diversity in the United States.
Life in the 1800s
Life in the 1800s was very different from today. There weren't many roads to travel on and trading with other people far away from you was difficult. The Industrial Revolution was kicking into high gear and more and more jobs were being created. Factories needed laborers to make their products and they also needed a large supplement of coal, which gave unemployed citizens the opportunity to obtain a job. Working as a miner was also a very dangerous job. There were often gas explosions from withing the mine, which would kill all the workers trapped. Life in the 1800s was not easy, but people managed to adapt to their situation and were able to overcome all of life's obstacles.
